Goa PMRU conducts district level awareness programme in North Goa to ensure drug pricing compliance

The Goa State Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (Goa PMRU) recently organised district level awareness programme in North Goa under Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities on the Topic “Building a Healthier Nation: NPPA and Goa PMRU's Role in Affordable Medicines and Public Awareness" at Khorlim, Mapusa.
The PMRU, an arm of National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), organised this programme in association with Consumer Welfare Cell of Saraswat Education Society (SES) Sridora College of Commerce & Management Studies.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shweta Dessai, director, Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa; principal, Prof. Santosh Patkar, SES Sridora College of Commerce & Management Studies; Rupesh Kamat, chairman of SES; Amit Kamat, president, chemist and druggist association; and Roland Martin, coordinator-GOA CAN.
Dr Sarita Bhonsle, project coordinator of Goa PMRU gave a detailed presentation on activities by Goa PMRU with stress on NPPA role in affordable healthcare and Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) as an excellent source of self-employment and affordable medicines. Two informative leaflets of Goa PMRU were released during the event. Swati Lad, deputy director, gave an informative presentation on anti-microbial resistance (AMR) to make people aware of this global concern.
This programme was well attended by staff of FDA, all stakeholders from consumer clubs, consumer forums and chemist and druggist from North Goa. About 80 participants were present for session.
The Government of Goa officially established the Goa State PMRU under the Category-3 which has an expenditure of Rs. 7.80 lakh per annum for market-based data collection and purchase of test samples. This unit, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, aims to monitor and regulate the pricing of essential pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in the state of Goa.
