With the prevailing Covid-19 situation and inability to participate in trade shows/organize trade delegation to these countries, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) with the support of the Union ministry of commerce & industry is organising a virtual pharma business meet with African region with the title “Indo-Africa Pharma Business Meet” at Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia from February 15-19, 2021.

“The Officials from Embassies/High Commissions, ministry of health, ministry of commerce of india and Africa would be deliberating on the “Market perspective, regulatory developments and opportunities present in the respective country for Indian pharmaceutical exports,” stated Uday Bhaskar, director general, Pharmexcil.

Indo-Africa Pharma Meet is a business meet aimed at connecting the pharma companies virtually and deliberate on the market opportunities as well to meet the medicine requirements of the pharmaceutical business houses of the participating countries.

Africa offers great potential for India's pharmaceutical products and our exports during the FY 2019-20 is US$ 3,513.64 million contributing about 17% of the total pharma exports from India with a growth rate of 2.24% over 2018-19.

The generic market size of Africa is valued at US$ 7 billion. India is the largest importing partner of Africa.

Considering the nature of the region falling into the Focus area for pharmaceutical exports from India, the council has been regularly organizing delegations to the African region covering major countries with export potential.

The council stated that the business meet will have the webinar for each country followed by the buyer-seller meets with each country for the rest of the day, which will be attended by the importers, traders and distributors of pharmaceuticals and allied products.

Pharmexcil is the authorized agency of the government of India for promotion of pharmaceutical exports from India. It was set up under the provisions of Foreign Trade Policy by the ministry of commerce and industry in May 2004. The role of the Council is to make suggestions to Government of India on policy issues relating to pharmaceutical exports.
