The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has invited Indian pharmaceutical companies with approvals from Stringent Regulatory Authority (SRA) countries or the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (FDA) to express their willingness to supply a range of medicines required by the ministry of health & wellness, Government of Maldives.
Pharmexcil said it has received a communication from the High Commission of India in Maldives regarding the requirement of medicines by the Maldivian health ministry. The development provides an opportunity for eligible Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers with the required regulatory approvals and production capacity to participate in meeting the medicine requirements of the Maldives.
According to Pharmexcil, member companies manufacturing the identified products and having approvals from SRA countries, along with the capacity to supply, have been requested to submit their willingness through an online Form at the earliest. The information will enable Pharmexcil to compile and forward the details of interested companies to the High Commission of India in Maldives.
Pharmexcil director general (DG) Raja Bhanu said, “Member companies manufacturing the subject products, having approvals from SRA countries and capacities to supply are kindly requested to submit their willingness through an online form asap to enable Pharmexcil onward submission of the details with the High Commission of India, Maldives.”
The medicine requirement covers over 400 products across a range of therapeutic and healthcare applications. The list includes levonorgestrel, fluorouracil, vincristine, zoledronate, streptomycin, Factor IX concentrate, gentamycin, barium sulphate, sildenafil, sodium chloride, glyceryl trinitrate, cefuroxime, cyclosporin, folinic acid/leucovorin, methylprednisolone, nitro-glycerine and sodium nitrite.
The products represent diverse healthcare requirements, including medicines used in contraception, oncology, anti-infective treatment, transplant medicine, cardiovascular care, blood-clotting disorders, diagnostic imaging and emergency or antidotal therapy. The inclusion of both essential medicines and specialised therapeutic products indicates the requirement spans multiple areas of clinical care.
Levonorgestrel is used primarily for contraception, while fluorouracil, vincristine and zoledronate are associated with cancer treatment and supportive oncology care. Streptomycin, gentamycin and cefuroxime are antimicrobial medicines. Factor IX concentrate is used in the management of certain bleeding disorders, while cyclosporin is an immunosuppressive medicine used in areas including transplant care.
Barium sulphate is used as a contrast medium for diagnostic imaging. Sildenafil has applications in specific cardiovascular and other approved indications. Sodium chloride is widely used in clinical settings, while glyceryl trinitrate and nitro-glycerine are used in cardiovascular care. Folinic acid or leucovorin is used in cancer treatment protocols and other clinical settings, while methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid used for a range of inflammatory and immune-related conditions. Sodium nitrite has specific medical applications, including use in certain poisoning emergencies.
Pharmexcil has requested eligible member companies to utilise the opportunity and submit their willingness through the prescribed online form. The exercise is intended to facilitate the identification of Indian manufacturers that can meet the Maldivian government's requirements while possessing the relevant regulatory approvals and supply capacity.
The initiative also reflects the role of Pharmexcil in facilitating business and institutional linkages between Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers and overseas government and healthcare procurement requirements. Companies responding to the requirement are expected to provide the relevant details through the prescribed mechanism so that Pharmexcil can undertake the onward submission to the Indian High Commission in Maldives.
