The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has notified extension of separate ceiling price for several formulations and strengths of IV fluids manufactured by three companies, following its decision in a recent Authority meeting.

The price regulator notified the separate ceiling prices for seven IV fluid formulations from Hindustan Polyfab and 13 formulations including multiple strengths of the same formulation, from Pharma Impex Laboratories.

NPPA in its recent Authority meeting, has considered the request from Hindustan Polyfab for separate ceiling prices under Para 11(3) of the Drugs Prices Control Order (DPCO), 2013, for IV fluid in Euro Head/LDPE bottles with special features.

The matter was considered by the Multi Disciplinary Committee (MDC) of Experts in its meetings, and the Committee recommended approval for separate ceiling prices. Based on this, the Authority notified the price of sodium chloride injection 0.9% w/v 100 ml pack at Rs 42.79 per pack, Rs. 89.47 per pack for 500 ml pack of same formulation, Rs. 83.70 per pack for dextrose injection 5% w/v, Rs. 87.01 per pack for combination of dextrose 5% and sodium chloride 0.9% injection 500 ml pack, Rs. 66.09 for compound sodium lactate injection 500 ml, Rs. 0.23 per ml for ciprofloxacin injection 200 mg/100ml, for 100 ml pack, and Rs. 0.25 per ml for metronidazole injection 500 mg/100ml, for 100 ml pack.

The company demonstrated their product for the features of self-sealability, self-collapsibility and its Euro head to prevent contamination, before the MDC, prior the recommendation.

Similarly, the Authority gave its nod to the extension of ceiling price of IV fluids with packing in non-glass with special features, based on application from Pharma Impex Laboratories.

The company, before the MDC, has demonstrated their products for the features of no chances of contamination during manufacture, infusion, admixing level, self-sealability, self-collapsibility and not having air vent.

Besides, the company also submitted before the MDC that at the time of submission of their application, ceiling prices of these formulations were applicable based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) notification issued with effect from April, 2024, and the present applicable ceiling price of these formulations have been revised with effect from April 1, 2025.

Based on the application, the Authority notified the ceiling price of sodium chloride injection 0.9% w/v 100 ml at Rs. 42.79 per pack, Rs. 89.47 per pack for 500 ml pack of same formulation, Rs. 100.22 per pack for sodium chloride injection 0.9% w/v 1000 ml, Rs. 0.24 per ml for dextrose (glucose) injection 25% (w/v), Rs. 0.25 per pml for metronidazole injection (0.5% w/v) 500 mg/100 ml of 100 ml pack, and Rs. 0.23 per ml for ciprofloxacin injection 200 mg per 100 ml for 100 ml pack.

Further, separate ceiling prices has been notified for seven more formulation packs from the company. It has fixed Rs. 87.01 per pack for combination of glucose (dextrose) 5% and sodium chloride 0.9% injection 500 ml pack, Rs. 101.68 per pack for the 1000 ml pack of the same combination, Rs. 83.70 per pack for glucose injection 5% (w/v) 500 ml, Rs. 96.77 per pack for 1000 ml pack of the same formulation, Rs. 0.41 per ml for mannitol injection 20% 100 ml, Rs. 66.09 per pack for ringer lactate injection 500 ml and Rs. 116.20 per pack for ringer lactate injection 1000 ml pack.

Separate ceiling prices has been fixed for BML Parenteral Drugs' IV fluid drug formulations in Euro Head packaging, including sodium chloride injection 0.9% w/v 100 ml at Rs. 42.79 per pack, 250 ml pack of the same formulation at Rs. 63.18 per pack, 500 ml pack of the same formulation t Rs. 89.47 per pack, ringer lactate injection 250 ml pack at Rs. 51.88 per pack, 500 ml pack of the same formulation at Rs. 66.09 per pack, glucose injection 5%(w/v) at Rs. 83.70 per pack, and combination of glucose (dextrose) 5% and sodium chloride 0.9% injection 500 ml at Rs. 87.01 per pack.
