The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has once again
asked the medical device manufacturers in the country to provide
information/data in respect of notified medical devices, manufactured or
imported or marketed by these companies for monitoring of the price
movement of these notified medical devices as 'Drugs' under DPCO, 2013.
The
NPPA's directive in this regard comes in the backdrop of the fact that
in spite of several reminders, the medical devices companies did not
provide the details in the prescribed format to the NPPA. Earlier, the
NPPA had issued a letter dated 09/11/2015 asking the medical devices
manufacturers to provide information/data in respect of notified medical
devices, manufactured/imported/ marketed by these companies in a
prescribed format. As the NPPA did not receive the desired results from
the manufacturers, it subsequently sent reminders dated 12/01/2016,
09/02/2016, 24/05/2016 and more recently on 01/06/2016.
However,
the information/data received by the NPPA from these companies reveals
that there are still few companies from whom the information/data are
still awaited; Few companies have furnished the data relating to the
stent prices as per the prescribed format; Few companies have
provided the data for orthopedic implants and stated that they are not
manufacturing cardiac stents; Few companies have not submitted soft copy
of the data; and Many companies have given the data/information with
respect to MRP for stents only, however the data provided is not as per
the format circulated.
The NPPA has asked the medical devices companies listed by it to furnish the complete updated information within 7 days.
