DGFT issues updated list of PSIAs and approved instruments to ensure regulatory compliance

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued an updated list of 11 empanelled Pre-Shipment Inspection Agencies (PSIAs) based on approvals granted in the 27th Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) Meeting to ensure regulatory compliance.
The IMC has also approved both instruments i.e., Handheld Radiation Survey Meter and Radionuclide Identifier (Spectrometer) as valid parameters for allotment of countries/areas of operation. Accordingly, all PSIAs are required to update the mapping of their operational areas/countries with the approved Handheld Radiation Survey Meter and Radionuclide Identifier (Spectrometer) as per their physical presence on the DGFT portal.
Handheld radiation survey meters are used in the pharmaceutical industry primarily for radiation protection, contamination monitoring, and quality control in processes involving radioactive materials. They are essential tools for maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Spectrometers are vital in pharma for quality control (QC), R&D, and manufacturing. They are used to verify raw materials, check drug purity/potency, monitor dissolution, identify impurities and ensure formulation consistency. It is also used to detect counterfeits and confirm final product quality, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance through rapid, accurate, often non-destructive analysis.
The approvals have been granted after consideration of the applications in the IMC, based on the comments and recommendations received from Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
Name of the PSIAs are Solitary Consultant Pvt. Ltd, SAP Engineers and Surveyors, Marine Inspection Company Ltd, Seacor International LLC, Nectar Inspection Services LLC, BROS Engineering Services, Melt Enterprise Ltd, Metal Services, Wayship Technical Solutions Worldwide Private Limited, Global Marine Inspection and Valmark International.
However, the aforementioned agencies mentioned above shall ensure the fulfillment of the following conditions. All PSIAs shall maintain valid calibration certificates for their instruments at all times, provision of a valid bank guarantee, update mapping of equipment vis-à-vis their areas of operation, on the DGFT portal, if required; and a registered office and operational bank account in nationalized bank in India. Details have to be shared with PSIA Cell, DGFT.
The validity of the PSIA approval shall remain in effect for a period of three years, or until such time as may be notified by the DGFT, whichever is earlier.
The applicant, DD International Global, South Delhi, India through a writ petition had sought implementation of the decision on its PSIA renewal application. The case was placed before the 27th IMC Meeting and, based on the comments of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the application was approved.
The applicant, NI-MET METALS INC., ONTARI?, CANAD?, had also filed multiple writ and contempt proceedings and other connected petitions, alleging delay in the processing of its PSIA renewal application. Pursuant to the directions issued by the Courts, the matter was placed before the 27th IMC meeting and, based on the comments of AERB, the application was approved.
