As longevity becomes an increasingly important focus for the global beauty and personal care industry, in-cosmetics Global, organised by RX, has launched an Innovation Report exploring the technologies, ingredients and consumer trends influencing the future of product development.

According to Euromonitor International, nearly half of consumers now prioritise “looking healthy” over purely aesthetic outcomes, reflecting growing interest in personal care products that support long-term health and wellbeing.

Titled The Science Shaping Longevity in Personal Care 2026, the report brings together industry intelligence, expert commentary and examples of recent ingredient innovation to examine how longevity is changing the way beauty products are researched, formulated and evaluated.

Developed with Euromonitor International and sponsored by Coachchem, it features perspectives from leading beauty brands, ingredient suppliers and scientific experts, including Shiseido, DECIEM, BASF, Symrise and dsm-firmenich. Covering skincare, haircare, fragrance, nutricosmetics and body care, the report offers a comprehensive view of the latest developments and emerging opportunities across the personal care industry.

The science and trends influencing personal care innovation
Biotechnology is a key theme, with advances in precision fermentation and microbiome science creating new possibilities for personal care formulation. Emerging technologies such as PDRN and exosome-inspired delivery systems are also examined, alongside the growing importance of biomarker analysis and clinical testing to demonstrate ingredient performance.

Consumer expectations are also playing an important role in the direction of innovation, as longevity becomes more closely connected to everyday health and wellbeing. Nutricosmetics, functional ingredients and convenient delivery formats are gaining importance in supporting long-term wellness routines. Meanwhile, advances in neuroscience are opening up new possibilities for fragrance innovation, particularly in understanding the relationship between sensory experiences and emotional wellbeing.

Longevity is also gaining traction across scalp health, haircare and body care, while the growing use of GLP-1 medications is creating new considerations for personal care innovation. Examples of ingredient technologies and formulation concepts from across the global industry illustrate how advances in science are being translated into practical applications.

Ina Dawer, global insight manager: Ingredients at Euromonitor International, explains, “The strongest signal in longevity is the move away from anti-ageing and reversal, and toward longevity as functional healthspan. In beauty, this is showing up through skinspan and increasingly hair healthspan, where the focus is maintaining resilience, recovery and barrier integrity over time.”

Roziani Zulkifli, exhibition director at in-cosmetics Global, comments, “Longevity is one of the most exciting areas of personal care innovation right now. We're seeing ingredient suppliers rethink how products can support skin health over time, with advances in biotechnology, formulation and scientific testing opening up new possibilities. With so much happening across the industry, it can be difficult to keep pace. We wanted to bring together the latest developments, expert thinking and real examples of innovation in one place, giving our community fresh ideas and a clearer picture of where personal care is heading.”
