As part of moving to online mode of licensing process for Ayush manufacturers through e-aushadhi portal introduced by the Union Ayush Ministry, the Ayush department in Kerala has called upon all Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) drug manufacturers to register with the portal before the end of this month.

So far 55 manufacturers have registered their details with the portal. Kerala has 756 licensees for manufacturing ASU&H medicines. Out of this, some licensees have closed down their units. Once the online registration is completed, we will be able to get a clear picture of the licensed and operating manufacturers all over Kerala, said Dr C K Jaya, drugs controller, Ayurveda department in the state.

She said apart from manufacturers, the portal will contain information on the medicinal products manufactured and sold, details of the cGMP manufacturing units, licensing authorities, consumers, clinics and the practicing doctors. Government of India has recently extended the last date for registration upto October 31 and a timeframe of six months have been granted to all state drugs controllers to complete the registration process on the portal. In the first week of this month the ministry of Ayush notified the amended drug rules in this regard, Dr Jaya told Pharmabiz.

The Ayurveda industry in Kerala has welcomed the move of the central and state Ayush departments.

Dr D Ramanathan, secretary of the Kerala ayurveda drugs manufacturers association (AMMOI) said the association has given directions to all members to get registered with the portal as early as possible. AMMOI has sent online instructions to the manufacturers on how to register with the portal and what are the details required to be submitted. A customer care service has also been opened by AMMOI for helping its members to register with e-aushadhi portal. The secretary of AMMOI said they will complete the registration process within this month.

Dr K V Vijith, managing director of KV Pharmaceuticals in Pattambi in Palakkadu district said online submission of applications for licensing and renewal will ease the process to be carried out by the manufacturers. It will save the time, energy and money of the applicants to get the licences. Further, he said the new system will increase the transparency and accountability of the whole system of office-work.

Dr Ram Mohan, managing director of Vedas Ayurveda Hospital and manufacturing company in Pathanamthitta is of the opinion that registration through e-aushadhi portal will eliminate corruption in getting licences and speed up the process which would help the applicants a lot. According to him, the present system of direct submission of applications is delaying the process and the manufacturers have to wait for a long time. In addition to that, he has to directly meet the concerned officers for a speedy issuance of the certificates. He thanked the union Ayush ministry for introducing the online registration system.
