Belarus seeks collaboration with Indian pharma companies towards building a resilient API supply chain

The Republic of Belarus has sought active participation and collaboration with Indian pharma companies towards building a resilient API supply chain as part of the Belarusian-Indian Pharmaceutical Forum.
The Forum is jointly organised by Pharmexcil in association with the Belarus Pharmaceutical Holdings Company “Belpharmprom” during XXVIII International Medical Forum “Healthcare of Belarus” to be held between May 23 and May 26, 2023 at Minsk, Belarus.
“Within the framework of the Forum, it is planned to hold seminars with participation of specialists on the issues of registration of medicines and medical devices in the Republic of Belarus,” informed Udaya Bhaskar, Director General, Pharmexcil.
Having a market size of US$ 1.2 billion, Belarus is largely dominated by the state owned Belarus Pharmaceutical Holdings Companies led by “Belpharmprom”. Its market consists of Generics with a share of 51% valued at US$ 601milion, market with patented medicines having a share of 10% valued at US$ 122.5 million) and OTC with a market share of 38% valued at US$ 444 million. India’s export to Belarus in FY-2023 is US$ 20 million.
“This comes at a time when the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is coming out with new regulations for a common registration process towards creating a common market place in the region for which the harmonisation is underway,” informed Lakshmi Prasanna, director regulatory affairs, Pharmexcil.
The Eurasian Economic Union consists of five member states of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. The Eurasian Economic Union is located at the eastern end of Europe, bounded by the Arctic in the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east and East Asia, the Middle East and part of Central Asia to the south.

Pharmaceuticals constitute the bulk of India’s exports to Belarus amounting to about US$ 35 million per annum. The Republic of Belarus is located in the center of Europe. The shortest transport links connecting the CIS countries with the states of Western Europe run through its territory. Belarus has a common border with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine. The central position of Belarus in Europe is of great importance for the development of trade.
