Afghan public health ministerial delegation is scheduled to meet the Indian pharma industry on December 19, 2025 to explore opportunities for the import of Indian pharmaceutical products including traditional medicines as part of Afghanistan delegation visit.

The Afghanistan delegation’s visit is aimed at gaining an understanding of the Indian healthcare ecosystem. Officials associated with this development has stated that this visit will encourage Indian pharmaceutical companies to consider opportunities in the public health care systems in Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan high-level delegation, which is on a visit until December 21, 2025, is led by Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalili, Minister of Public Health, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

This visit is also aimed at improving healthcare standards, reduce dependence on substandard imported medicines, and significantly upgrade technical capabilities of Afghan pharmaceutical facilities.

“Members have been urged to participate in this important interaction, which will contribute significantly towards strengthening India–Afghanistan cooperation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector,” Pharmexcil DG added.

A trade delegation led by Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce last month visited India between November 19 and 25, 2025.

Following this visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth USD 100 million was signed between Afghanistan-based Raoufi International Group and India's Zydus Lifesciences.

The MoU, signed in Dubai is being hailed as a landmark step in rebuilding Afghanistan's pharmaceutical capacity while expanding India's footprint in the country's healthcare sector. The signing ceremony took place at the Afghan Consulate in Dubai in the presence of the Afghan Ambassador and senior commercial officials.

According to Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Zydus Life sciences, one of India's major pharmaceutical manufacturers, will initially export medicines to Afghanistan. Over time, the company will relocate its representative office to Afghanistan and begin domestic drug production. Officials confirm that the transfer of technical data and know-how for local manufacturing has already begun.
