Grain Technik Pvt. Ltd recently launched India’s first grain chiller (Model GT-250) in the Indian market at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre at GrainTech India 2016, the leading show on grains, cereals, spices, products and technologies.

The product, according to the company, will help give Indian and South-East Asian customers access to the world’s smartest and most efficient grain chiller.

In a media briefing organised as part of the launch, the company showcased the design, features and capabilities of what it claimed as the “safest, smartest and the most economical chiller.”

Technologically speaking the GT-250 is a midscale product from the range having cooling capacity to cool 180T to 250T of grains a day. Performance testing for the GT-500 is underway with higher cooling capacity compared to GT-250 and have cooling performance of 430T to 500T of grains a day.

The company further claimed that it was the first Indian company to develop grain coolers completely designed, manufactured and tested in India. The company has invested over two years in research and development in order to manufacture the most affordable and efficient units for Indian conditions. The company has its roots in niche industrial air conditioning via its brand ‘Atmos.’ The refrigeration part was not a big challenge considering the company’s decade old strength in air conditioning design, however major research was done in understanding the grain behaviour and its application with silos and warehouses. With the support of grain experts from government agricultural bodies, the technology came to reality.

Features of the machine
Safety of your Grain
The units are designed to blow dehydrated cold air at constant temperature and relative humidity. Since the temperature and humidity are automated for safe operation, there will be no risk of adding moisture to the grain and on the other side no risk of blowing extremely dry air to dry the grain in line with the principle of grain sorption isotherm.

Improved Efficiency
The unit is said to be the most efficient system for grain chilling in typical sub-continent tropical conditions as they use tapping from compressor to control the RH factor and not by electrical heating. The GT-250 is expected to consume 3KW to 7KW per tonne of grain in ideal conditions.

Grain being a good insulator, loses heat very slowly which signifies that once the grain is cold it remains cold for a long period of time (in some cases three to five months).

Rahul Khanna, director, GrainTechnik Pvt. Ltd, has a vision to accelerate the world’s transformation to natural conservation of grain. He is convinced that with the support of government and spreading awareness, India will soon progress towards natural conservation by chilling grains in silos/warehouses. Fumigation would be discouraged and grain cooling would gain momentum because cooling can keep the grain safe for longer duration without any quantity or quality loss. The harvest freshness is maintained, milling efficiency is highly improved and the breaking percentage of grains is reduced.
