With the prestigious Pharma City project in Telangana going on at a snail’s pace, the state government of Telangana has decided to initiate steps to expedite the development works of the Asia’s largest integrated pharmaceutical project in the state.

As part of this, the state government has decided to set up two skill development and training centers at the Pharma City project, so that educated locals whose lands have been offered for the project can be trained and given jobs.

In fact, the Pharma City project has been delayed due to problems in the land acquisition process. Many villagers have opposed to offer their lands for the project as they felt that there is no use for them. Taking cognizance of the feelings of the local villagers, the state government has proposed to offer job to at least one person in a family, offering land for the project. As part of this, the state government has decided to set up two skill development and training centers to exclusively train to the locals and upgrade their skills so that they can easily be absorbed by the pharma companies setting up their bases in the Pharma City.

The other main reason for the state government to speed up the development process of the gigantic pharma project is that it wants to take advantage of post COVID-19 situation, wherein many pharma companies from China are planning to opt out of that country and showing their interest to relocate to Hyderabad. It is learnt that as many as 7 pharma companies from China have already expressed their intent to set up their bases in the Hyderabad Pharma City.

According to E V Narasimha, managing director of TSIIDC, out of a total proposed 19,333 acres land, the state government has already acquired 8,400 acres and handed over the land to the TSIIDC for development. “We have already taken up phase-1 development works of the Pharma City project. We are almost on the verge of completing link roads, internal roads and fast completing drains, erection of power lines, setting up of common effluent treatment plants and other necessary industrial requirements needed for the pharma companies to set up their bases. Hopefully by end of 2020 we will be able to inaugurate the first phase. Already many companies have filed their applications seeking land in the Pharma City project,” informed the TSIIDC MD.

As the government is facing main hurdle of land acquisition, it had even come out with a government order, wherein it has made it mandatory for the pharma companies to offer at least 80 per cent of jobs both at skilled and non-skilled workers to the locals. With this the government is planning to attract the farmers and land owners to give away their lands to the project. “In the second phase, the government is planning to acquire another 6,400 acres. We are quite optimistic that we will be able to accomplish the development works of the project in the intended target period. The entire project is targeted to be completed by end of 2025,” said the TSIIDC MD.
