Sai Life Sciences, a Hyderabad-based contract research organization (CRO), has recently set up a huge discovery biology facility and is all set to enhance its research and development activities with an overall investment of Rs. 450 crore in the coming days.

Earlier last year, Sai Life Sciences had opened 83,000 square feet of research and technology centre. The newly established discovery biology facility and the upcoming integrated research and development campus is further going to augment the company’s research capabilities and advanced technology platforms.

According to Krishna Kanumuri, chief executive officer and managing director of Sai Life Sciences, the company is primarily focusing on investment in three key areas, including people and culture, processes and automation and infrastructure & scientific capabilities.

“We are planning to invest Rs. 450 crore as part of organizational transformation initiative. Already we have planned to invest $150 million (over Rs. 1,000 crore) since 2019 to about next 4 years up to 2023. Our basic focus is to expand and upgrade our research and development and manufacturing capabilities. In addition to this we are inducting global scientific and leadership talent and further strengthening automation and data systems,” informed the CEO.

The centre at Sai Life Sciences already has set up 24 chemistry laboratories with analytical labs fully equipped technology suite and dedicated process safety laboratories.

To further build its capabilities in biology, Sai life Sciences set up a huge discovery biology facility over an extent of 75,000 square feet area. At present the company has more than 1,200 employees at the campus which is spread over an area of 13 acres in Hyderabad.

The newly set up discovery biology facility is established to conduct its research activities in vivo and in vitro (in living organisms and microorganisms respectively) biology services. “Our objective of establishing the large scale research and development facilities is to augment and accelerate our integrated drug discovery programmes. The new facility marks the culmination of our journey which began two years ago,” observed Krishna Kanumuri.

Already the company had began its operations of its first international R&D in Boston, USA and has already offers startups to carry out their operations. On similar lines, the company is also expanding and upgrading its research facilities in Hyderabad to give a boost to its contract research development activities.
