The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) will lead a business delegation to Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco between January 12 and 21, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s pharmaceutical presence in Africa, which is one of the fastest-growing markets for generic medicines. The visit schedule and dates have been officially confirmed by the Indian Embassies in the respective countries.
India’s pharmaceutical exports have witnessed steady growth, standing at USD 30.46 billion in FY 2025. Africa remains a significant destination for Indian pharma products, accounting for a generic drug market of approximately USD 12 billion. During FY 2024–25, India’s pharma exports to the African continent reached USD 3,933 million, representing about 12.91% of India’s total pharmaceutical exports.
Recognizing the strategic importance of Africa in India’s export landscape and the rising demand for generic formulations and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), Pharmexcil has planned this physical business delegation to further explore partnerships and market expansion opportunities.
As part of the visit, Buyer-Seller Meets (BSMs) will be organized in each country, providing an opportunity for Indian exporters to connect directly with local distributors, importers, and healthcare institutions. The delegation will also hold meetings with trade associations, key industry members, and government officials from respective Ministries of Health and Food & Drug Authorities (FDA) to discuss regulatory collaborations and business facilitation.
Raja Bhanu, Director General (DG), Pharmexcil informed, “We have submitted the proposal for the proposed Africa Business Delegation under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme and are awaiting approval from the Ministry. Any updates or confirmation regarding the approval will be communicated to the members accordingly. Interested members are required to complete a mandatory registration form and submit it by November 10, 2025, with all necessary details in the prescribed format. Detailed schedules for the Buyer-Seller Meets and official meetings will be shared with the registered participants shortly.”
“Through this initiative, Pharmexcil aims to deepen bilateral trade relations and position India as a key partner in ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare solutions across Africa,” DG Pharmexcil concluded.
