Pharmaceuticals exports report marginal growth in July

Exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country have reported a marginal growth of 0.75% in the month of July, 2026, at $ 2.68 billion, as compared to $2.66 billion during the same month of last fiscal year.
According to the preliminary data from the ministry of commerce and industry, in rupee terms, the growth in exports during the fourth month of the current financial year was around 12.09% at Rs. 25,738.71 crore, as against Rs. 22,962.67 crore reported during the same month a year ago.
During the first four months of the fiscal year 2026-27, exports grew 5.2% at $10.78 billion, as compared to $10.25 billion during the same period a year ago. In rupee terms, the growth during the four months was 16.61% at Rs. 1,02,446.67 crore as compared to Rs .87,853.21 crore during the same period last year.
Imports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products during the month of July declined 3.96% at $825.17 million, compared to $859.19 million during the corresponding month of last year.
In rupee terms, imports registered a growth of 6.87% during the month, at Rs. 7,906.90 crore, as against Rs. 7,398.89 crore during July, last year.
Imports during the first four months of the fiscal year 2026-27 grew around 5.7% at $3.29 billion as compared to $3.11 billion in the same period of last year. In rupee terms, the growth during the period was reported at 17.24%, to Rs. 31,211.08 crore, as against Rs. 26,621.01 crore during the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
It may be noted that during the month of June, 2026, exports reported a growth of around 7.2% at $ 2.81 billion, as compared to $2.62 billion during the same month of last fiscal year.
In rupee terms, the growth in exports during the third month of the current financial year was around 18.41% at Rs. 26,666.6 crore, as against Rs. 22,521.51 crore reported during the same month of previous fiscal year
India's exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals has registered a growth of 2.13% during the financial year 2025-26, as compared to a 9.39% growth reported during the financial year 2024-25. Exports during the month of March, 2026 declined 23.17% compared to the same month of previous year.
Exports during the period from April, 2025 to March, 2026 stood at $31.12 billion, as compared to $30.47 billion reported during the same period of previous fiscal year. The fiscal year 2025-26 has seen turbulence in trade owing to the global economic situation, threats related to trade tariffs from the United States of America, and a supply chain disturbance owing to the Middle East crisis.
Imports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products to the country during FY26 grew 7.81% to $9.61 billion, compared to Rs. 8.92 billion during the previous fiscal year.
As reported earlier, the exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country as registered a 9.39 per cent growth during the financial year 2024-25 at $30.47 billion, as compared to $27.85 billion reported in the previous year.
The Economic Survey 2025-26, stated that India currently ranks 11th globally in pharmaceutical exports by value, with exports to 191 countries in 2024-25, of which 50 per cent are directed to highly regulated markets such as the United States and Europe, reflecting wide international acceptance of Indian medicines.
