Exports of Drugs and Pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 7.4 per cent growth in the month of May, while imports reported an increase of around 3.04 per cent compared to the same month of previous year.

The exports for the month of May stood at around $2.47 billion as against around $2.31 billion reported during the corresponding month of previous fiscal year, according to data from the ministry of commerce and industry.

The growth during the month was higher compared to the 2.4 per cent increase reported in May, 2024, compared to the same month of 2023.

In Rupee terms, the exports growth was 9.69 per cent to Rs. 21,090 crore during May, 2025, as compared to Rs. 19,227 crore during the same month of previous year.

Imports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products during May reported a growth of 3.04 per cent to $786.12 million, as against $762.91 million imports during the same month a year ago.

In Rupee terms, the imports reported growth of 5.26 per cent to Rs. 6,696.96 crore in April, this year, as against Rs. 6,362.13 crore during the same month last year.

In the first two months of the fiscal year 2025-26, the exports grew around 4.81 per cent at $4.96 billion, as compared to $4.73 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. In Rupee terms, there is a growth of 7.3 per cent to Rs. 42,361 crore, as compared to Rs 39,481 crore in the corresponding period of 2024-25.

Cumulative imports of medicinal and pharma products grew 6.1 per cent during the two months, at $1.53 billion as compared to $1.45 billion registered a year ago. In Rupee terms, the growth was 8.6 per cent to Rs. 13,104 crore as against Rs. 12,066 crore reported during the same period last year.

It may be noted that the exports has registered a 9.39 per cent growth during the financial year 2024-25. Exports during the 12 months ended March, 2025 was at $30.47 billion, as compared to $27.85 billion reported in the previous year.

The exports reported a 9.67 per cent growth during the financial year 2023-24, at $27.85 billion as compared to $25.39 billion registered for the corresponding 12 months of financial year 2022-23.
