The affiliation for the Bihar Drugs & Pharmaceutical Manufacturers
Association (BDPMA) with the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association
(IDMA), the national body of pharma manufacturers in the country, is on
the horizon with the state leaders of both the organizations set to meet
in Kolkata in the second week of next month.
President of BDPMA,
Sanjiv Rai, has informed Pharmabiz that the preliminary level meeting
of the office-bearers with the national organisation leaders will be
held in Kolkata soon, in which a date will be finalized for the
affiliation meeting. After the Kolkata meeting, IDMA national leaders
will visit Patna to interact with the industry people of Bihar. Already,
several discussions were held over telephone.
According to
sources from IDMA, as per the constitution of the national body, each
member company should take membership from the national board. The state
association can also take a separate membership. All the companies of a
state should become members of the national board, after that they can
form a state board. Until then the units in the state will work under a
different state board.
Deepnath Roy Chowdhury, president of IDMA,
said “the national committee had several times discussions with the
BDPMA officer-bearers, and IDMA national board will provide all help for
the Bihar units to become members. The next executive committee of the
IDMA will discuss this matter as an agenda.”
The national
president said the industrial units all over the country are now facing
problems like regulatory issues, pricing issues and the latest GST. No
state government in India is giving proper support to the struggling
units anywhere, so the national industry association is under heavy
pressure from all corners.
Commenting on the present situation in
Bihar, Sanjiv Rai said “all the pharma industrial units in Bihar are
facing several challenges and once they become part of the national
organisation, we hope, many of their issues will be solved. We want to
be a part of IDMA and initially we will work under Bengal state board”.
The
state committee of the BDPMA is now engaged in the task of bringing all
the pharma units in the state under one umbrella. Many units are not
members of the state organisation. The president said before June 30 a
meeting of all the manufacturers will be held in Patna or in
Muzaffarpur. There are over 100 pharma manufacturing companies in the
state.
