India is recognised as a global powerhouse for Ayurveda and botanical ingredients. This accelerates the pace of nutraceutical companies in the country to meet international wellness demand.

As the global wellness and health movement picks up steam, the nutraceutical market is leading the charge in a significant transformation. Consumers everywhere are redefining how they maintain health—putting more emphasis on prevention, longevity, and overall wellness. In turn, the market for nutraceuticals is growing quickly, driven by interest in clean-label, natural, and science-supported products, said Madhu Krishnamani, founder and managing director, Botanic Healthcare.

The new wellness era is seen to be driven by trends redesigning the industry. Generic solutions are no longer what today's health-oriented consumers are looking for. They want products that accommodate their personal needs, lifestyle, and values, he added.

The focus is on personalized nutrition. Technological, genetic, and health monitor advances are making targeted nutritional strategies possible. Supplements are being made more and more personalized based on individual information, from age and sex to stress levels and gut health.

Wellness is now being defined to encompass not only physical well-being, but mental toughness, immune power, sleep quality, and digestive harmony. Pandemic awareness has further fuelled this holistic transformation. Customers are asking for greater transparency in everything from where ingredients are sourced to how they're processed. Ethical production methods and sustainability are no longer negotiables in brand loyalty and trust, he said.

We see India has a special place in the international nutraceutical scenario. With an ancient history of traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and Siddha, and a wealth of biodiversity and expanding scientific infrastructure, the nation has the potential to emerge as a significant global producer of natural health solutions, stated Krishnamani.

Quoting a report in the public domain, he said that Indian nutraceutical market is expected to reach $18 billion by 2025 and $68.42 billion by 2030. Both domestic demand and global demand for ayurvedic and botanical ingredients are driving this growth. India's key strengths include low-cost manufacturing, talented people, and extensive expertise in botanicals.

But to lead effectively on the world stage, India’s focus must shift to value-added, branded products with clinical trials and international standards of regulatory compliance. The key is to blend India's traditional knowledge with high-end science to provide stable and effective health products.

Despite the momentum, the industry faces a few pressing challenges: inconsistent regulations across markets, limited infrastructure for large-scale clinical trials, and the need to build greater trust in Indian-made products on the global stage, Krishnamani told Pharmabiz.

Companies are now investing in research, AI-powered discovery, clinical validation, and robust traceability systems to bridge these gaps. The future of nutraceuticals will be defined by those who can combine tradition, technology, and transparency at scale, he noted.

As the world increasingly turns to natural solutions for modern health challenges, India stands at a crucial turning point. With the right focus on innovation, quality, and global alignment, the country can transition from being a raw ingredient supplier to a global leader in holistic, science-backed wellness solutions, said Krishnamani.
