The prolonged dormancy of the Telangana state board of the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) due to Covid pandemic has now ended with the formation of a new state board in the state with the support of leading pharmaceutical companies located in Hyderabad.
With this, the pharmaceutical industry in Telangana state hopes that all the activities of the association can be revived within a short period of time. In order to strengthen and streamline the operations of the organization, the captains of the industry have elected a new body of office-bearers for two years’ term with the managing director of the Euromedicare International Pvt Ltd, J Rajamouli, as chairman. Rajamouli was the founder president of the association when it was formed in Telangana in 2014. KV Rambabu of Pulse Pharmaceuticals is the vice-chairman. K Ravinder Reddy of MSN Labs, the fastest growing pharmaceutical company in Hyderabad, has been elected Secretary General of Telangana IDMA. I R Shekhar Rau of the leading pharmaceutical exporting company, Vans & Health Pharmaceuticals, is the joint secretary while Y Hariprasad of Yeluri Formulations will serve as the Treasurer. The ten-member executive committee comprises J Anil Kumar (Scoat Pharma), Umashankar (Serin Formulations), A Karthik Rao (Akin Labs), Surya Mohan (Rexer Pharma), Sumit (Jain Medicament), Samsundar (Reich India Biotechnologies), T Rajasekhar (HTY Pharma), G Rohan Karthik (Oaksun LIfesciences), Hanumanta Rao (Vitacare Industry) and G Srinivasa Rao (Joshika Pharma). Representatives of major MNCs such as Dr. Reddys Lab, Aurobindo Pharma, Natco Pharma, MSN Labs and Hetero Drugs also attended the AGM. Sharing information with Pharmabiz, the new chairman of the IDMA state board, J Rajamouli said the annual general body of the association was conducted in Hotel Mercure in Somajiguda on June 9 and all the office-bearers have taken charge immediately. He said apart from formulation manufacturers, the companies which have engaged in the production of certain vitamin food products, neutraceuticals and marketers of pharmaceuticals have also been included in the association. Since the ultimate aim of the association is to provide all-inclusive support to the drug manufacturing units, contract manufacturers, clinical research organisations, testing laboratories etc will also be included into the state board shortly. Whereas, the bulk drug manufacturers will work under their separate association, however, they will be invited to the special programs and seminars organized by IDMA. Rajamouli said the new office-bearers of the association will soon seek appointments with the chief minister, the health minister and the top bureaucracy for apprising them the issues pertaining to the pharma sector in Telangana. Welcoming the new office-bearers, Daara Patel, the secretary general of the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association said the national association is happy with the formation of the new state board in Telangana, and expressed the hope that the team of office-bearers will take up the issues of the members. He said IDMA was not dormant in the state, but the leaders might have their own problems and issues in their business. So they could not devote much time into the organizational activities. “After all this is a voluntary organisation, each one has his own problems. Now a new team has taken up the charge and the operation of the association is going to be revived. We are happy in that and wait for good things to come,” he told Pharmabiz.
