The Union health ministry has issued the list of drug manufacturers whose more than five samples have been failed in the National Drug Survey conducted by National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) across the country to check the proportion of drug samples failing in quality testing. There are a total of 66 companies in the list, some of them prominent companies, whose 946 drugs have been found to be not of standard quality (NSQ) drugs in the Survey.

The health ministry had conducted the survey last year and the result was declared in February this year. Compiled in 400 pages of well documented evidence-based study, the survey which tested 47,012 samples revealed that 13 samples (0.0245%) were spurious and 1,850 samples (3.16%) were NSQ. A copy of full report of the Survey has already been uploaded on CDSCO website for public information. In general review meeting of the Ministry on 06.07.2017, it was decided that the list of drug manufacturers where more than five samples have been failed, be put on CDSCO website separately.

As per the list, New Delhi-based Unicure India Ltd tops the list with 61 NSQ drug samples declared in national drug survey, followed by Halewood Laboratories Ahmedabad, with 48 NSQ drugs and Scott-Edil Pharmacia, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh with 45 drugs declared as NSQ.
