Keen on strengthening the drug regulatory mechanism in the state, the
Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDA) is planning to
gradually increase its infrastructural capabilities in the coming years.
They plan to achieve this by adding new food and drug regional offices,
while simultaneously modernising and expanding its existing offices.
As
a commitment towards setting high standards, Gujarat FDCA with the
support of the state government plans to expand and renovate all of its
current 27offices and laboratories. Gujarat FDCA has already got the
approval from the state government to undergo modernisation of its
existing offices so as to meet the changing regulatory requirements.
Dr
Hemant G Koshia commissioner of Gujarat FDCA informed that their target
is to renovate four offices every year, while simultaneously adding new
offices to meet the growing workload.
On its modernisation and
infrastructural capacity building measures, he added that to spruce up
their activities and achieve best performance, they have already
completed the renovation of six existing district offices. While work on
the other offices have either began or has been earmarked for the
future, he said.
“Gujarat has always been in the forefront of
attracting key market players, making it an ideal investment friendly
market destination. To boost the confidence in the regulatory mechanism
in the state, we have to strive very hard by keeping ourselves updated
on the changing regulatory and market dynamics. The state government has
also been very proactively supporting us to have a competitive edge. To
keep up the standards, we are committed to invest considerable time and
money for modernising all our offices, laboratories etc as per the
global requirements,” he pointed out.
They have already initiated
the work on this, by adding two new district offices in Somanath and
Morbi, bringing its current number of offices to 27 district offices. Dr
Koshia informed that considering the need to ensure proper functioning
of the regulatory work it was deemed utmost essential to further expand
and modernise the FDCA offices.
The new offices have been aiding
them in consolidating and strengthening their regulatory work in
Gujarat. At present, counting this two, there are 27 district level
offices in Gujarat under the Gujarat FDCA. It plans to add two new
district offices each year under its belt to meet its increasing
regulatory needs along with increasing its manpower.
