Experts have highlighted the critical role measurement instrumentation devices play to ensure product quality, process efficiency and regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical sector.

“Among these instruments, flow meters and pressure sensors are of paramount importance. They enable increased efficiency, reduced wastage and cost savings in the pharmaceutical industry,” explains Prashant Sinha, head of marketing, WIKA India.

Sinha further explains that the pharmaceutical sector operates under strict regulations with quality and safety as guiding principles. Manufacturing pharmaceutical products involves monitoring and managing a wide range of parameters. Flow meters like FLM-CA and FLM-CM accurately measure the flow rate of liquids or gases during various stages of pharmaceutical production, such as raw material transfer, mixing and packaging. Real-time data on flow rates enables precise control over processes, preventing overflows, underfills, or ingredient ratio discrepancies. This not only maintains product quality but also reduces wastage, leading to significant cost savings during the manufacturing process.

The WIKA Group is a global market leader in pressure and temperature measurement. The company also sets the standard in the measurement of level, force and flow, and in calibration technology. WIKA devices operate in a quality and environment management system adhering to international standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001) along with various other required certifications.

Pressure sensors by WIKA like TR-21A, TR30, and TW22 monitor and control pressure levels in pharmaceutical processes that prevent equipment failures, contaminations and explosions. They further maintain consistent pressure conditions during manufacturing, ensuring high-quality products. These sensors also enhance process efficiency, minimize downtime and decrease batch failures.

Flow meters and pressure sensors enable pharmaceutical manufacturers to identify inefficiencies and aid in optimizing operations. Maintaining stringent quality standards ensures the safe and effective production of pharmaceutical products.
Sinha informs that the test and instrumentation market is saturated with a variety of products. However, every brand cannot affirm high standards of precision and quality. It is imperative to understand and establish what sets your product range apart to capture the attention of potential customers and gain a competitive edge. The pharma industry is precision-oriented. WIKA brings in German standards in quality and precision. Our robust global R&D center is the powerhouse of innovation. For WIKA, ‘quality’ and ‘service’ are the two key pillars on which the company rests its market leadership.

WIKA’s best-in-class instrumentation range is aimed at minimizing shutdown time for the end users, thus saving money and time in the process. Furthermore, one of our biggest differentiators in the market is that WIKA Global helps end users export products with relative ease.

He adds, “In a day and age where time is money, our strong distribution network ensures the availability of WIKA products in all major industrial towns. The organization also provides servicing at the doorstep through mobile calibration vans that drastically reduces operations downtime. This is a key value addition to the customers.”

Sharing his perspective on the robust data security measures and ensuring transparency in data collection, Sinha explains that with the advent of IIOT in process automation, sophisticated data collection and analysis are enabled. However, robust data security measures are pivotal to safeguard sensitive information and maintain ethical industry practices. Test and measurement devices collect valuable data about the operation to ensure optimal precision and quality while also preempting maintenance of the machinery to avoid downtime.  However, the data collected could lead to intellectual property theft, reputational damage and legal consequences in situations of system breach.

“Nevertheless, there has been abundant progress in data security where implementing encryption, access controls, regular audits and intrusion detection systems can help eliminate such risks and instills confidence in customers and stakeholders,” he further explains.

Talking about regulations, Sinha says that it is imperative for the test and measurement industry to align marketing strategies with government body regulations to maintain accurate product information and adherence to labeling requirements. Test and measurement tools used in sectors like healthcare and pharmaceuticals must provide reliable data for critical applications to minimize the risk of misrepresentation or false claims and withhold the safety of millions of patients.
