The 40th annual general body meeting and 9th state conference of the Ayurveda Medicine Manufacturers Organization of India (AMMOI), to be held on November 26 in Kozhikodu in Kerala, will hold threadbare discussions on the present challenges and future prospects of the Ayurveda industry.
Although AMMOI's AGM is conducted every year, the state conference is held on every fourth year only. This year the association is organizing the 40th AGM and the 9th state conference. AMMOI was formed in the year 1983, said Dr. D Ramanathan, general secretary of the AMMOI.
This year the AGM and state conference is conducted along with an exhibition of Ayurveda products and company profiles, and about 450 manufacturers will showcase products and services in the expo. Industries from neighbouring states will also exhibit traditional products in the exhibition.
Briefing Pharmabiz about the program, Dr Ramanathan said new office-bearers will be elected in the afternoon session for the next tenure. The forenoon session will have two programs including the inaugural session. The association is trying its level best to bring the Union Ayush Minister to the program, but confirmation is yet to receive. Eminent Ayurveda experts from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh have been invited to the function. The second session will have the seminar on the theme, Challenges and Prospects of the Ayurveda Industry in India.
Unlike from previous years, this state conference will have the presence of all stakeholders on the Ayurveda sector and their associations will be given a few minutes time to explain their problems in the conference. AMMOI has invited the prominent associations such as AMAI, AHMA, KGAMOA, Ayurveda Medical Officers Federation, Private Ayurveda College Teachers Association, Akhila Kerala Government Ayurveda Teachers Association and Ayurveda Promotion Council. He said this is the first time in the last 40 years AMMOI is inviting other organizations of Ayurveda professionals to its state conference. However they will not be allowed to attend in the AGM of the association in the afternoon.
According to the general secretary of AMMOI, the Ayurveda industry is encountering myriad challenges and 80 per cent of the units are struggling. He said a few number of companies have the breakeven revenues and the micro level units are struggling to withstand. There are production related issues, raw material issues, trade issues and regulatory problems. The practitioners have separate problems and the drug sellers have a variety of problems. Within the limited time, the conference will discuss maximum issues and submit a detailed report to the government, said Dr D Ramanathan.
