The leaders of Kerala Ayurveda medicine manufacturing industry have decided to increase the sector’s sales turnover to Rs.5,000 crore in the next five years through expansion of domestic market and exports. This was decided at the 8th Annual General Meeting of the Ayurveda Medicine Manufacturers Organization of India (AMMOI) last week.
The total sales revenue of the Ayurveda sector is currently estimated at Rs.1,500 crore. All over Kerala, 680 manufacturing units are bringing out various classical and patented products.
From this year, the manufacturers will deal mainly in two segments – production of formulations and cultivation of medicinal plants – for expansion of business to north Indian and foreign markets, says the report presented by association secretary Dr D Ramanathan. It says that if the industry is given financial aid from state and central agencies, the production of ayurvedic medicines can be increased to attract more national and international markets.
The AGM of AMMOI unanimously re-elected Dr D Ramanathan, managing director of Seetharam Ayurveda Pharmacy, Thrissur, as general secretary of the association for the period 2019-22. He has been holding the post from 1983 when the organization was formed.
Dr. P Ramkumar, factory manager at Kottakkal Ayurveda Vaidyasala, was elected president of the association. He was holding the post of president of AMMOI Malappuram district committee. Dr. E T. Neelakantan Moss, chairman of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala is the new treasurer. The election was held at the 8th Annual General Meeting held recently in Kochi.
The meeting also elected three vice-presidents, one joint secretary and three zonal presidents. The general council of the association consists of 30 members.
