CPhI and P-MEC India 2017 - the 11th essay of the events dedicated to the pharmaceutical ingredient sector and the pharmaceutical machinery, technology and equipment sectors, respectively - commenced at MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. UBM India Pvt Ltd has organised the event, which will conclude on November 29, 2017. Between November 28 and 30, 2017, the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, will host the second leg of the event.
The BKC leg was inaugurated by Yogesh Mudras, managing director, UBM India Pvt Ltd; Jime Essink, president and chief executive officer, UBM Asia Ltd; Satish Wagh, chairman, Chemicals Export Promotion Council (Chemexcil), and Chakravarthi A V P S, chief executive officer and managing director, Ecobliss India Private Limited. Mudras said, “Last year the response to the inaugural India Pharma Week (IPW) was good. Hence, we have launched its second essay this year. A lot of innovations are taking place in drug packaging. Automation is taking place in packaging.”
Wagh said, “The government is implementing for pharma pollution. Steps are being taken to curb pollution.” Chandan Pant, business development manager, Essential, made a presentation on the challenges faced by the healthcare industry and solutions to help overcome them in authentication and tamper evidence. He said, “Counterfeit medicinal products are a threat to the health and safety of patients around the world. Asia accounts for the biggest share of the trade in the counterfeit medicines.”
“Counterfeit medicines jeopardise the lives of the patients. Many of the drugs found in India are either fake or ineffective,” he added, stating that very few people were aware of the security features and detection needs of specialist laboratory equipment.
GL Biochem (Shanghai) Ltd was one of the exhibitors at the event. George Zheng, the company’s sales manager, said, “This is the first time we are here. I hope we will have good business, and hopefully, we will come next year as well.”
Pharmacokinetics was among the visitors. Hilary Paul Agius, its business development manager, said, “This is the first time I am visiting CPhI India. I have visited CPhI Europe and Asia. CPhI India is very organised, and I was able to meet new companies.”
